What is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and how does it affect you?

OSA is a dangerous disease that causes the body to stop breathing when you sleep.

It happens when the upper airway is obstructed.

OSA affects one in every three men and one in every six women.

If your partner exhibits any of the signs below, they may be suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA):

  • Stops breathing while asleep
  • Snores heavily and loudly
  • Wakes up exhausted
  • Wakes up with headaches
  • Feels sleepy during the day
  • Has memory lapses
  • Wakes up often to urinate

Encourage your partner to see their doctor if you suspect they have OSA. Discuss the symptoms and whether they are linked to OSA.

A sleep-study carried out at Tristate  Healthcare System Facilities at  lagos and Ibadan can help determine this.
